1. Spend a Morning at Las Canteras Beach 🏖️

2. Walk Through Vegueta — The Old Town 🏛️
This is where Las Palmas started in 1478. Narrow cobblestone streets, colonial buildings with balconies, plazas where things have happened. It is not pretend-historic — it is the actual historic part of the city where people still live and work.
What to see in Vegueta:
Santa Ana Cathedral — the main landmark, with a tower you can climb for views over the whole city and the ocean. Free to wander around, small fee to go up the tower.
Casa de Colón — Christopher Columbus’ house (or close to it). A museum now, with maps and artifacts from the Age of Exploration. Interesting if you care about that stuff, skippable if you do not.
Mercado de Vegueta — the working market where locals buy food. This is where to try papas arrugadas (wrinkled potatoes with mojo sauce), the best local snack. Come on Sunday morning for the best energy.
The side streets — the real Vegueta is not the plazas. It is the small streets between them, the courtyards, the cafés where people are having meetings or reading the paper. Wander without a plan and this is where you find it.
3. Eat Your Way Through Triana 🍽️
Triana is where the city lives right now. A pedestrian street, Art Nouveau buildings, restaurants and cafés on every corner, a place that feels more active and less museum-like than Vegueta.
No specific thing to “do” here beyond sit down and eat.
Try a local restaurant. Get ropa vieja (shredded meat). Order a barraquito coffee (it is a thing — condensed milk, liquor, whipped cream, cinnamon). Spend more time than you thought you would.
If you are traveling solo or want to meet people, this is where to do it. The energy in Triana makes it easy to start a conversation with a stranger or join a group of locals at the bar.
The “Things to Do” That Involve Other People
This is where Las Palmas stops being just “another city” and starts being the place you will tell stories about for years.

Optional: Day Trips From Las Palmas
If you stay more than two days, leave the city for at least half a day.
Bandama Caldera — a volcanic crater about 20 minutes south. Hike around the rim or down into it. The views are worth the drive.
Agaete — a fishing village on the northwest coast about 30 minutes away. Smaller and more local than Las Palmas, with ocean pools, fresh seafood restaurants, and a real fishing town vibe.
Mountain villages — Teror, Tejeda, and others inland have mountain air, different food, and a pace that is slower. Good for a full day trip.

Everything. The beach stuff, the history stuff, the food stuff.
